Refinery Office and Warehouse Facility
Ross Group Engineering led the design for a new, 148,055 sq. ft. headquarters building that includes administration, maintenance, and warehouse space for an industrial client in Kansas. The existing spaces for these functions currently reside in various buildings across the refinery and either cause inefficiency or are directly in the way of other planned improvements. The new facility will streamline operations under one room and provide a two-story, 54,240 sq. ft. administration area; a two-story, 43,300 sq. ft. maintenance area; and a 50,515 sq. ft. warehouse space with an open bay section and a smaller, 7,435 sq. ft. mezzanine.
Given the purpose of the facility, safety was one of the most important factors considered during the design phase. The building is compliant with all applicable codes, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), International Building Code (IBC), National Electric Code (NEC), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. The walls within the building include 1- and 2-hour fire-rated assemblies, and the building will be fully covered by a state-of-the-art fire alarm system. The bridge crane in the maintenance area was also designed with safety in mind, with the structure needed to support each 10-ton bridge crane hook. In the adjacent section designated for welding, the appropriate welding hood exhaust system will also be installed.
